Job Shadow Experience:
Students should be looking for a location to complete their job shadowing experience. Please inform Mrs. Johnson ASAP of your job shadow plans. Students also need to stop in the office and ask for a pre-approved absence form prior to job shadowing.
As a reminder, students wanting to shadow at Murray County Medical facilities must be a sophomore or age 16 and have a background check completed a week prior to their job shadow experience. Students should be aware that they may be unable to shadow a job where there is a high concern of confidentiality such as doctors, counselors, nurses, etc.
Students will need to take a job shadow review form with them to their job shadow. You can click the link and print the form or see Mrs. Johnson to get a copy. Forms are due the day after your job shadow experience. There is also a set of job shadow questions you should pick up. Soon after job shadowing, students should turn in a 2 page reflection on the experience detailing what was learned while there, how the experience will or has affected their plans for the future, etc.

Job Shadow Requirements
Shadowing is the spending of time with a person in a career in which the student has a growing interest. It includes time when the student quietly observes the many aspects of the job and the worker’s role in it. It also includes a time when the student can sit down with the worker and discuss the job and ask questions.
- The student must shadow someone other than family members or current employers.
- The job shadowing should be done by October 31, 2017, giving the student the last week of the quarter to report on his/her experience.
- The teacher must approve the job shadowing person before the student goes.
- A parent/guardian will need to call the principal’s office before the student goes to his/her job shadowing experience so he/she will not be counted absent for the day.
- The job shadow experience should take all day. If for some reason it doesn't, the student must return to school.
- Students are strongly encouraged to complete their shadowing experience during non-school hours or on a non-school day such as MEA break.
- If this is not possible and your student does not wish to miss school, the shadowing could be done on a weekend, but should be at least 6 hours long.
- Students shadowing at a Murray County Medical facility must be 16 or a sophomore and need to complete a background check before their job shadow experience. This process takes at least 1 week. Students shadowing at other medical facilities should inquire about the need for a background check when they call.
- Students must dress appropriately according to the job they will be shadowing.
